Safer Internet Day: How TLC LIVE keeps students safe online

Safer Internet Day: How TLC LIVE Online School Helps Keep Young People Safe Online

At TLC LIVE, every day is Safer Internet Day. Our commitment to safeguarding our students in the digital space underpins all aspects of our online education services. Safer Internet Day, recognised globally, is an important opportunity to reflect on how we maintain and enhance online safety for our students and their families. Here’s how TLC LIVE goes above and beyond to ensure a secure and supportive learning environment.

No webcams for peace of mind

While webcams are often used in online education, we have chosen a different path to prioritise student privacy and engagement. At TLC LIVE, we don’t use webcams in our lessons. This ensures that students remain in control of their personal space, free from the anxiety or vulnerability that cameras can sometimes bring. It also helps parents feel reassured, knowing their child’s identity and environment are not being broadcast.

Stringent safer recruitment practices

The foundation of a safe learning environment starts with the people delivering it. TLC LIVE adheres to rigorous safer recruitment standards. Every teacher is thoroughly vetted, undergoing enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks, reference verification, and interviews that assess their commitment to safeguarding.

We only work with qualified, experienced teachers who share our dedication to creating a safe and enriching online environment for every student.

Use of our own content

To guarantee a secure and consistent learning experience, we use exclusively developed educational content. This approach not only ensures high-quality, tailored materials for students but also eliminates the risks associated with third-party links or external online content. By keeping things in-house, we maintain control over the resources used in our lessons.

Screen sharing for interactive learning

Instead of webcams, we use secure screen-sharing technology. This allows teachers to guide students through tasks and share educational materials without compromising privacy. Students can interact directly with the lesson content while teachers provide focused support—all within a controlled, secure platform.

Embedding online safety into the PSHE curriculum

At TLC LIVE, online safety isn’t just a practice—it’s a lesson in itself. Our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic) curriculum using Jigsaw Learning, equips students with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate the digital world safely and confidently.

From recognising the signs of cyberbullying to understanding privacy settings and the importance of digital citizenship, our students are empowered to protect themselves and make responsible choices online.

Safeguarding guidelines for teaching staff

Our teaching staff follows robust safeguarding guidelines tailored to online education. This includes mandatory training on recognising signs of distress, ensuring appropriate digital interactions, and maintaining professional boundaries in the virtual classroom.

We also have clear protocols in place for identifying and reporting any concerns, so that support can be provided quickly and effectively when needed.

A safe space for learning

TLC LIVE’s approach to online safety ensures students can focus on their education without distraction or worry. By integrating safeguarding measures into every aspect of our service, we offer parents peace of mind and students a secure platform to thrive academically.

As we mark Safer Internet Day, let’s remember that a safer internet starts with intentional practices and a commitment to doing what’s best for our children. At TLC LIVE, we’re proud to lead by example, ensuring that every click and keystroke is part of a safe, engaging, and enriching educational journey.
