Navigating exam season: Study hacks for success

Revision help

With exam season now in full swing for many across the UK, both students and teachers are likely to be feeling the strain. Remember, it’s completely normal to feel stressed during this time, but it’s important to manage both yours and your students stress levels effectively.

In this blog post, I’ve gathered five essential study tips for your students preparing to take their exams over the next few weeks.

  •  Effective planning: Effective revision involves thorough preparation and planning. Students should look to begin their revision journey by creating a clear revision timetable with specific targets for each session. By doing this early they can structure each study session to really make the most out of their allocated time.
  •  Breaks are essential: Long periods of studying aren’t always efficient as pupils are likely to tire and lose focus. Instead, students should try revising in shorter sessions of 30-45 minutes with breaks in between. By doing this, pupils are likely to have more productive revision sessions, rather than overwhelming themselves with long hours of cramming, that will ultimately cause unnecessary stress.
  •  Past papers pave the way for performance: Students should utilise past exam papers by practicing them under timed conditions as often as they can. By doing this, they will familiarise themselves with the types of questions and time allocation needed for each section. This will also allow them to pinpoint areas that may require additional revision.
  •  Learning styles: Not everyone learns in the same way, and therefore it’s essential for your students to find the style that suits them. There are several types of learners, including visual, auditory, social, interpersonal, kinaesthetic, or reading and writing based learners. Allow your students to find their preference and adapt their revision accordingly.
  •  Removing distractions: Managing distractions is crucial. Ensure students have an environment where they can concentrate by creating a designated study area that is both quiet and comfortable. This will help pupils associate this space with focus and learning. Another practical tip could be to encourage your students to turn off their digital notifications, this should help them maintain their focus.

By implementing these five essential study tips, your students can enhance their exam performance. From creating a study-friendly environment to practicing past papers and exploring alternative research methods, there are various strategies to help students succeed during this challenging time. Remember, effective preparation and self-care are key to navigating exam season with confidence and success.

Keep in mind that tutoring for schools can serve as a valuable tool for boosting your student’s confidence as they navigate exam season. Best of luck everyone.
